PAR's PC fix-it and up keep info

First off you most definitely need an ANTI-Virus program
If you have one that came with the computer, make sure it's the newest and updated at least once a week!

If you do not have an Anti-Virus program, or its time to re-new, you might use the program by AVG
its is one of the better ones, plus it is FREE!
AVG program =http://www.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download
(thing is newest version has some not so good features)
Install AVG Free, reading carefully as you go or you will end up with a free trial of
the paid version and also a Yahoo toolbar. Not too good. Install only the FREE program !

Another very good anti-virus is AVAST , It's what I personally use ..Get it here:
Though the latest version, has many not so nice features
https://www.avast.com/en-us/index

One recommended by a few friends is Comodo, which says:
Obliterate viruses and malware without hogging your PC's resources
http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/antivirus.php

You may be wondering how you ended up with a virus, especially if you were
visiting a 'normal' site. The latest research shows that more than 80% of malware
(viruses, spyware, and the like) spreads through legitimate websites,
with only 1% coming from suspicious or 'dodgy' sites.

Next DO NOT get Lavasoft's AD-Aware
Lavasoft, the company that makes Ad-Aware, was bought out by an infamous
"affiliate marketing" company, a company that had connections to selling
"online porn, reskinned peer-to-peer filesharing software,
and allegedly skimmed online sales,
charging customers for software that they did not order."
I am STILL trying to get rid of thier mess !!..

Spybot Search and Destroy SPYBOT program = https://www.safer-networking.org/

And get Java Cools Spyware Blaster which prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware,
adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Also blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

Another one that is good is Malwarebytes :

Another one which seems to be better overall is SUPER AntiSpyware:

Another System Information program is SPECCY

Startup Control is Startup Inspector
It scans all programs that are in the Windows Startup Folder, Registry and
provides you with a background information of the program.
Remove unnecessary programs like reminders, monitors, improve your system performance.

Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, missing
Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, and displays the results in your Web browser.

Unpatched programs can lead to silent installations of malicious code simply by visiting
a web site, opening a PDF, a movie, or other "innocently" looking file types and content.
If you want to feel safe from drive-by-attacks and when opening email attachments,
then you need to get patching now, use the free Flexera Software to test.

Note: there are PAID versions and demo versions of many of these -
get only the FREE version.
And only from the sources listed, as there are lots of fake ones with
names close to them, that are junk and actually may PUT spyware on !!!
MAKE SURE that you UPDATE each of these at least weekly and then run them !
Also read carefully on the install, and do NOT install stuff you don't want..
like TOOLBARS !

And finally do not forget to clean out the dust and dirt
from your PC, open it up (after unplugging) and use canned air
to blow out the dust in all the fans including the CPU one..
Heat can ruin a PC !
